The man in the crocheted top and hooded tabard outside Skylight Studios in New York’s West Village is mournful. A fashion student at the Royal College of Art in London, he’s here to promote his SS16 collection guerrilla style by handing out fanzines displaying his wares to the assorted buyers, fashion press and hangers-on attending New York’s first ever men’s fashion week, largely held in the venue, a repurposed photographers’ studio. “Londoners are much more friendly – these people are tough,” he complains, as New York’s fashion industry marches purposefully into the industrial white hallway.

Public School NYC
Public School are Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow. Both native New Yorkers, they met in 2003 when Chow, a former journalist, was marketing director of Sean John and Osborne was an intern. They launched their own label in 2007; since then their minimal, mainly monochrome streetwear with a high fashion twist has been a retail hit and won them several fashion industry awards, including the first International Woolmark prize for menswear this year. The pair are based in New York’s garment district and as well as running Public School, they were recently appointed creative directors of DKNY.

Jarryd Hayne has described as “false and pathetic” an Australian media report that alleged he had made the San Francisco 49ers’ 53-man squad.
The 49ers have until Sunday to name the team, but a Rugby League Weekcolumn reported Hayne had already told family and friends he survived the final cut.
“This article is completely false and pathetic,” Hayne wrote on Facebook and in a tweet addressed to family and friends.

Andy Lee WBO title defence postponed due to Billy Joe Saunders injury
The WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee’s title defence against Billy Joe Saunders has been postponed after the challenger suffered a cut eye while sparring. The two were scheduled to fight at the Manchester Arena on 10 October – having already had their original date of 19 September, at Ireland’s Thomond Park, postponed by Lee catching a virus – but now Saunders has been forced to withdraw.
